Mariana Brito Neves also known as Mary Person, is a Brazilian former professional futsal and soccer player, coach, and scout.
Early life
[edit]Brito Neves was born in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil, and raised in Mogi Guaçu.
College and club career
[edit]Brito Neves began her collegiate soccer career in the United States at Cochise College in Arizona where she scored 18 goals in 15 matches before transferring to New Mexico Highlands University as a junior forward.[1] She later played for Goshen College[2] and signed with F.C. Indiana[3] where she caught the attention of Shek Borkowski, owner of the F.C. Indiana franchise and head coach of the Haitian women’s national team, who invited her to join the coaching staff of the Haiti U-20 team. [4]
She also played for FC Mulhouse[5] in France[6] and coached the U-15 girl's. Also representing the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) U-20 national team.
Coaching career
[edit]She has held various coaching roles, including:
- Central Methodist University – Graduate Assistant Coach from 2018 to 2020. She was part of the coaching staff that led CMU to the 2019 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) championship, winning the final 3–2 in double overtime. The team went on to compete in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship, advancing past the first round before being eliminated by Eastern Oregon University.[7][8]
- Fédération Haïtienne de Football – Assistant Coach for the U17 and U20 national teams; leading to a gold medal at the 2015 Caribbean Cup [9] – the first title ever in the history of the Haiti Women's National Team – and helped develop players like Nérilia Mondésir and Melchie Dumornay.[10] [11]
"People have no idea what we face, what the reality in Haiti and in women’s football is like. My players don’t even have cleats! These girls are already champions for what they’ve achieved."
Coaching licenses and education
[edit]Brito Neves holds a variety of certifications, including the prestigious Brazilian A Coaching License from the CBF.[12]
Personal life
[edit]Brito Neves is multilingual, fluent in Portuguese, English, French, and Spanish. She is married to her wife who has served executive marketing positions in soccer and together they continue to mentor and advocate for global player development and growing the game for girls. She's been celebrated Mogi Guaçu, as a strong presence on the international stage through her coaching and mentorship roles at major tournaments.[13]

From Mogi Guaçu to the world, Mariana Neves—known internationally as Mary Person—has turned obstacles into motivation. After beginning her career in futsal in the interior of São Paulo, she made the leap to the United States, playing in the WPSL for FC Indiana. Her career took an unexpected and inspiring turn when she joined the coaching staff of Haiti's U-20 women's national team.
