Manuel Barenboim Segal (born September 23, 1985, in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine audiovisual director and animator based in New York City. He is currently a design professor at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University[1] and leads the creative direction of the studio Motion Principles, which he also founded.[2]

Career

Manuel Barenboim Segal was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1985. He began his academic training in Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires, and later studied Animation at the Universidad del Cine. In 2010, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).[3]

His work as a director and animator is known for combining digital animation, hand drawing, stop-motion, and collage. He has collaborated with cultural institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, where he contributed animated content for audiovisual pieces about the museum's collections and archives.[4]

Barenboim Segal has also contributed to stage productions as a visual designer, with work presented at international venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Sydney Opera House, and the Los Angeles Opera.[5]

Since 2018, he has been a faculty member at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University, where he teaches courses in experimental animation and visual storytelling.[1]

His work has been featured in specialized media such as Village Voice[5] and Paper Magazine.[3]
