Mahmud Tareq Hassan Khan (born 23 September 1973) is a Norway-based Bangladeshi-born art photographer and academic. Known for his compelling visual storytelling across genres such as landscape, street, documentary, and travel photography, Khan has received multiple international photography awards. He is particularly recognized for his black and white photography, although he works extensively in color as well.
Early Life and Education Mahmud Tareq Hassan Khan was born on 23 September 1973 in Chittagong, Bangladesh. He developed an early interest in photography at the age of 14, when he received a Yashica Electro 35 film camera from his late father. This gift marked the beginning of his lifelong passion for photography.
Khan holds a PhD in Pharmacology, an MBA in Management, a Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm.), and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm. Hons.). He moved to Norway and currently resides in Tromsø.
Academic Career Khan has worked primarily in academia since 2000, contributing to research and teaching in the fields of pharmacology and health sciences. His academic background informs his methodical approach to photography, combining scientific precision with artistic vision.
Photography Career Although primarily self-taught, Khan refined his photography through books, online courses, and tutorials—particularly on YouTube—as well as through trial and error. He officially began converting his long-standing passion into a semi-professional pursuit in recent years.
