Lowerated is a startup company developing an all-in-one, AI-assisted platform that streamlines the filmmaking process from initial concept to marketing and distribution. The platform is designed to assist with tasks such as idea generation, scriptwriting, and more all within a single ecosystem. Founded in 2023 by brothers Muhammad Wisal, an AI engineer and Muhammad Ali, a marketer and brand consultant. Both are movies enthusiasts. Lowerated is incorporated in Delaware, United States, and also maintains operations in Pakistan.

History

[edit]

In 2023 Muhammad Wisal set out to address perceived bias in online movie ratings systems. Together they developed an algorithm called L-M-6 (Lowerated Module-6), intended as a “Statistically Accurate Democratization of Movies’ Ratings.” The L-M-6 system aggregates and analyzes movie feedback from multiple sources (such as IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes reviews) to produce an unbiased rating for any film. This approach was later documented in an open-access research paper in 2024, and the algorithm’s source code was released publicly on GitHub for transparency and community use. The early success of L-M-6 in highlighting top-rated films (via Lowerated’s published Top 50 movies list) made the founders aware of larger inefficiencies in the filmmaking process, inspiring them to expand their project into a comprehensive filmmaking platform.

By late 2023, Wisal and Ali founded Lowerated as a company to build out their broader vision of AI-assisted filmmaking. In early 2025, the team undertook a community-driven creative experiment called “Heart of a Creator,” a collaborative film script written "by the people of Lowerated" under Wisal’s direction. The project invited Lowerated’s social media followers to contribute ideas through the company’s Instagram channel, allowing the community to influence the story’s direction. This experiment not only engaged film enthusiasts but also helped the founders refine the scriptwriting tools for their platform.

Lowerated launched its first public tool, the Lowerated Script Writer, in mid-2025 as a beta release. Announced as the platform’s first module, the Script Writer was introduced after extensive development and testing. The release marked a significant milestone for the startup, transitioning it from concept phase into a functional product available to users. As of 2025, Lowerated continues to develop additional features around pre- and post production tools to fulfill its mission of a unified AI-powered filmmaking suite, with further tool modules teased as “coming soon” on the platform.

Products

[edit]
  • L-M-6 (Movie Rating Algorithm) L-M-6 is an open-source algorithm created by Lowerated to provide fair and statistically robust movie ratings and recommendations. It works by combining artificial intelligence with human evaluation to analyze diverse inputs (reviews, links, documents, etc.) and compute an accurate composite score for a film. By eliminating extreme biases and standardizing how different aspects of a movie are weighed, L-M-6 produces what the company describes as unbiased ratings that reflect a film’s true reception. The algorithm and its methodology were published in a 2024 research paper for the wider AI and film community, and Lowerated has made the code available for public use and further development. L-M-6 has been used to rank top films (e.g. generating a list of top 50 movies based on combined IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes data) and demonstrates Lowerated’s early focus on merging AI with community feedback in cinema.
  • Lowerated Script Writer The Lowerated Script Writer is an AI-assisted screenwriting tool and the first major product released on the Lowerated platform. It enables users to write, share, and collaborate on screenplays in standard industry format directly through a web interface. The application automatically handles script formatting (scene headings, character names, dialogue, etc.), allowing writers to focus on the story rather than technical layout. It also includes real-time collaboration features – multiple writers can co-write simultaneously, leave inline comments, and track version changes, ensuring that feedback and edits are managed in one place. To assist the creative process, Script Writer integrates an AI writing assistant named “Oli.” Oli can brainstorm ideas with the user, suggest plot points or dialogue, and help overcome writer’s block, all while leaving creative control to the human writer. Additional functionalities include automated tagging of script elements (such as characters, locations, and props) to simplify breakdowns for production planning, character profiling tools to help develop and track characters, and script analytics that visualize aspects like character screen time and scene length for better story insights. The Script Writer is positioned as the first of several modules, with future tools planned to handle other stages of filmmaking.

Marketing and Community Engagement

[edit]

Lowerated has built an active community of filmmakers and movie enthusiasts primarily through its social media presence. As of 2025, Lowerated claims over 60K+ followers across its social channels, with a particularly strong following on Instagram. On these platforms, the founders and team regularly share film-related content, engage in discussions, and involve their audience in creative projects.

One notable community initiative was the LM6 Top 50 series. In this campaign, Lowerated counted down the top 50 films as rated by the L-M-6 algorithm, posting one film at a time along with analysis and discussion. The series ran for 50 episodes on social media, sparking conversations about each film’s merits and demonstrating the capabilities of the LM6 rating system.

Following the conclusion of the Top 50 countdown, Lowerated introduced a recurring online series called “Film Talks.” Starting in May 2025, Film Talks features short videos that dive into various films, storytelling techniques, and cinematic trivia on a thrice-weekly schedule. The Film Talks series is presented by the Lowerated team as a way to educate and engage their audience, often connecting the discussion topics back to the creative tools and philosophy of the Lowerated platform.

In addition to Instagram, Lowerated maintains an official presence on other major platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Youtube, and Discord for its community. The startup leverages these outlets for marketing new features (like the Script Writer launch), sharing user-generated content, and providing updates on upcoming tools. By actively interacting with followers and creating collaborative projects (like Heart of a Creator and user polls for story ideas), Lowerated’s marketing approach blurs the line between product development and community building. This grassroots engagement has not only created buzz for the platform but also given the founders direct feedback from creators and film fans, which they incorporate into refining the platform’s features. Overall, Lowerated’s marketing strategy centers on community involvement, educational content, and showcasing how AI can augment creativity without replacing the human touch in filmmaking.
