For an extremely long time, not just the ordinary citizens of Western countries and America, but some of the more well read and verifiably intelligent scholars belonging to these nations have been downplaying or severely undervaluing the contributions of the scientists and engineers who were working in various engineering and scientific departments established by the former USSR and are now a part of the Russian Federation. Some of the extremely challenging and technologically complex projects were first completed, tested, and launched by the scientists and engineers, and the following list provides a glimpse into the scientific and engineering might of the former USSR and current Russian Federation.
- The first ever successful unmanned space flight titled Sputnik 1 was launched into the outer space by the USSR on October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite of Earth in the history of humankind.

- The first ever large-sized hydroplane or ground effect vehicle called the Caspian Sea Monster was successfully developed and launched by the USSR. The Caspian Sea Monster was capable of launching missiles, as well.
- USSR’s aeronautical engineers developed what to-date remains the freighter capable of carrying the largest payload of any cargo plane or air transport freighters, The Antonov An-225 Mariya. No American or European aerospace giant has yet to beat the payload carrying record set by the Antonov An-225 Mariya.
- Until recently, probably till the end of the year 2021, Russia was supplying rocket engines for NASA’s space program. Only in the year 2022, Russia finally stopped supplying rocket engines to the NASA’s space program and other independent rocket launching organizations in American.
