Linda Coogan Byrne (born 22 April 1983) is an Irish publicist, writer, and gender equity advocate known for her work in the music and media industries in Ireland and the United Kingdom. She is the founder of Why Not Her?, a campaign and data-led movement aimed at addressing gender and racial disparities in radio airplay and cultural representation.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Coogan Byrne was born in Dublin, Ireland. She studied music and audio production and trained as a luthier before establishing herself in the public relations and music industries.
Career
[edit]Coogan Byrne is the founder and managing director of Good Seed PR, a music and arts public relations company that has represented artists including Cyndi Lauper, The Prodigy, Groove Armada, and Eleanor McEvoy. She has also managed PR campaigns for large-scale events such as Electric Picnic, Knockanstockan, and the TG4 Gradam Ceoil awards.
In 2020, she published a series of Gender & Racial Disparity Data Reports analysing the representation of women and people of colour in Irish and UK radio airplay. The reports received widespread media coverage, reaching over 220 million people globally. Her work led to public commitments from broadcasters and industry stakeholders to improve equity and inclusion.[^1][^2]

[edit]In 2025, Coogan Byrne released her first book, Why Not Her?: A Manifesto for Culture Change, exploring systemic inequities in the music industry and her personal journey as a survivor and advocate. The book was accompanied by a campaign and podcast series.
