Plot

[edit]

Young Leyla's life spirals into disaster when her father, Hilmi, marries Nur, the beautiful young woman who once cared for Leyla’s late mother. Blinded by love, Hilmi doesn’t see the torment Leyla’s new stepmother inflicts on her, turning their home into a living nightmare. Tragically, Hilmi realizes too late that Nur is not who she seems, paying for his mistake with his life. Left homeless and alone, Leyla swears revenge on the woman who destroyed her family and stole her life.

Years later, Leyla returns under the guise of Ela, a talented chef hired by Nur, who is now living in luxury with her new partner, former football star Tufo. But things take a complicated turn when Leyla's childhood savior, Cino, reappears in her life as Civan, Nur's adopted son. As Leyla's thirst for revenge clashes with her rekindled feelings for Civan, long-buried family secrets come to light, forcing everyone to confront the wreckage of their past.

On October 17, 2023, it was announced that Globo (a Brazilian television network) had sold the rights to adapt the telenovela Brazil Avenue to Turkish producer Ay Yapım (of hits such as Forbidden Love, Fatmagül, Endless Love and Family Secrets) to produce the first international adaptation of the production. The unprecedented partnership allows Ay Yapım to make some changes, as long as they remain faithful to the main plot of the series. Globo Studios will be present as a consultant. The agreement was celebrated with great joy by its producers.[1]

Angela Colla, Globo’s head of international business and co-productions said: “We are betting on selling formats to bring our productions to new audiences and in different ways. And this agreement with Ay Yapım reflects that, showing the market that we are open to a variety of business models” and added “Seeing one of our most successful dramas produced in a new version will be fascinating. We believe in the potential of this adaptation, its success in Turkey and around the world, and that it will open doors for many to come.”

João Emanuel Carneiro, the writer of ‘Brazil Avenue’ and one of Latin America’s most celebrated drama creators, also hailed the agreement. “It’s delightful to know that ‘Brazil Avenue’’s first adaptation will take place in a country that loves telenovelas and has risen as one of the most prolific producers and exporters of this genre in the world, just like my own country.”

Kerem Çatay, CEO of Ay Yapım said: “We are very excited to produce and create the first version of this great story. I am sure this will be the next hit that will travel the world one more time. I believe joining forces in this new journey will bring a lot of newer opportunities in the future”

Ateş İnce, managing director of Madd Entertainment said: “Madd has already a proven track of powerful titles that drive audiences to all screens. And now with the Turkish adaptation of ‘Brazil Avenue’ we will have more to offer. It will bring a lot of excitement to the market. Being part of such a big partnership between Globo and Ay Yapım is also a privilege for us”

On May 19, 2023, it was announced that director Hilal Saral was chosen to direct the new Ay Yapım series, which is the Turkish version of the Brazilian series Brazil Avenue.[2]

On September 17, 2024, it was announced that musician and composer Toygar Işıklı (responsible for the music for the Ay Yapım series) was in charge of the series soundtrack.[3]

Curiosities

[edit]

The series had the provisional title "Hayat Hırsızı" (Life Thief), months later it was announced that its official title would be "Leyla", shortly after a new title was released "Leyla: Hayat... Aşk... Adalet..."

On August 16, 2024, the first trailer for the series was released, in which it is possible to notice similarities with its original version.[4]
