History

Kuwait American School (KAS) is a private, values-based educational institution located in Salmiya, Kuwait. It was established in 1999[1]by its founder and director, Wajeeha Al-Habib,[2] along with the founding principal, Peter Williams. The school initially opened with 108 students and quickly expanded. By September 2000, a new facility was constructed to accommodate the increasing student body.[3]

Educational Approach

KAS is known for integrating a values-based curriculum and was the first school in the Gulf region to adopt the Living Values Education Program. The school also introduced a specialized Etiquette Program aimed at fostering moral and ethical development among students. In 2000, KAS contributed to the Education for All initiative and offered 33 quality-based learning indicators to UNESCO as a model for early childhood education[4].

Growth and Development

In 2010, KAS expanded its academic offerings by establishing a high school. The first graduating class completed their studies in June 2014. The school achieved accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) in November 2015 and was re-accredited by CIS on 31 January 2022 [5], further solidifying its reputation as a premier international institution.

The school’s campus features modern classrooms, science laboratories, computer labs, a library, and recreational facilities. KAS also offers extracurricular activities such as Model United Nations (MUN) (in which they KAS hosted there grand MUN conference called KASMUN in January 2025)[6] , robotics, and various sports programs to enrich student learning beyond academics. Kuwait American School is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and follows an American-based curriculum tailored to international standards. The school’s educational model aligns with global benchmarks, ensuring students are well-prepared for higher education opportunities worldwide.

Notable Leadership

The school was founded by Wajeeha Al-Habib, who served as the director until her passing in 2012.

The current director is Amina AlShatti, who continues to uphold the school's vision of academic excellence, student well-being, and ethical education.

Ghaida AlHabib serves as the assistant director, supporting the daily operations of the school.

Peter Williams is the Educational and Living Values Consultant, playing a key role in maintaining the school’s values-based curriculum.

Crystal Minchew is the Middle/High Principal, overseeing the academic and operational activities at the secondary level,

while Driaan Van Niekerk is the Middle/High School Coordinator, working alongside the principal.

Batool Arjomand serves as the KG & Elementary Principal, responsible for the leadership of the younger educational levels.

Dina Eidan is the Head of the KG Department, ensuring the quality of early childhood education.

Abderrahim AitBara is the Curriculum Coordinator, guiding the development of the school’s curriculum.

The counselor, Zeina Al-Sibassi, and the guidance counselor,

Elvedina Mlivo Subasic, provide support for students' personal and academic growth.

Nagham Abdel Baki works as the Educational Technology Specialist, integrating technology into the school’s educational framework.

Ibrahim AbdulAzimi is the school’s accountant, handling the financial management,

and is the Head of Registration/Executive HR, managing student registration and human resources functions.[8]
