[edit]Kumar Chintha is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2017 batch, serving in the Maharashtra Police under the Maharashtra cadre. As of 2025, he is the Superintendent of Police of Yavatmal district, Maharashtra. Known for his community policing strategies and law enforcement operations in Naxal-affected areas, he has been recognized for his effective leadership and public engagement efforts.[1]
Early Career
[edit]Kumar Chintha joined the Indian Police Service in 2017 through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. After completing his training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), he was allocated to the Maharashtra cadre.
Career
[edit]Assistant Superintendent of Police – Jalgaon (2020–2022)
[edit]He began his field career as the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Jalgaon City from October 2020. During his tenure:
- He supervised large-scale law and order arrangements during major festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Rath Yatra, and Navratri.
- He led special crime detection units responsible for dismantling motorcycle theft and chain-snatching gangs, ensuring full recovery of stolen property.[2]
Superintendent of Police – Yavatmal (2023–Present)
[edit]In 2023, Chintha took charge as SP of Yavatmal, a district with Maoist presence and rural challenges. His tenure includes:
- Formation of Gram Suraksha Dals (village defense committees) to empower local communities.[3]
- Launch of Operation Prasthan, a youth- and women-focused program for self-defense, digital safety, and awareness.[4]
- Arrest of a contract killer linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.[5]
