He is also the founder of Fidelity Tax & Insurance Brokerage Corporation and an active figure in Polish-American civic life in New York City.
Early life and education
[edit]Matyszczyk earned a Master’s degree in history from the University of Warsaw before emigrating to the United States. He later pursued postgraduate studies at Columbia University and Baruch College, both in New York City.[1]
Career
[edit]Business ventures
[edit]In 1984, Matyszczyk founded Fidelity Tax & Insurance Brokerage Corporation (also known as Fidelity Tax Service) in Brooklyn, New York. The firm specializes in tax and insurance services for Polish-American clients, including IRS representation. His work in the field earned recognition from New York City officials, who described him as a "distinguished entrepreneur and community leader."[1]
Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union
[edit]Matyszczyk has been involved with PSFCU for over two decades. He joined the Board of Directors in 1997 and eventually became Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the credit union experienced significant growth. As of 2019, PSFCU had opened 11 of its 19 total branches in the preceding decade and neared 100,000 members.[2]
In 2019, Matyszczyk was re-elected to the Board after leading the vote count with 2,040 votes.[3]
He frequently represents the credit union at public events and branch celebrations, including a 2018 McGuinness Boulevard branch anniversary, where he announced the rollout of a new foreign currency exchange service.[4]
Matyszczyk also leads PSFCU delegations at events such as the Pulaski Day Parade and has represented the credit union in meetings with Polish officials, including a 2009 meeting with Polish President Lech Kaczyński.
Community involvement
[edit]Outside his PSFCU role, Matyszczyk has been a longtime supporter of Polish-American organizations. He co-founded the Polish-American Business Club (PABC), serving as its Treasurer for 16 years. He has helped coordinate PSFCU’s participation in numerous cultural and heritage events, including Polish Heritage Month celebrations and community parades.[5]
Awards and recognitions
[edit]In 2019, Matyszczyk was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his contributions to the Polish diaspora.[6]
In November 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams honored him at a Polish Heritage Breakfast, citing his community leadership and contributions to PSFCU’s growth. Mayor Adams described him as a “distinguished entrepreneur and community leader,” and acknowledged his Polish government honors.[1]
