Early life and education

[edit]

Krishna Saproo was born and raised in Jammu and Kashmir. Growing up in a region affected by political and social unrest, he witnessed the effects of conflict and stigma on youth mental health firsthand. He completed his schooling at KC Public School in Jammu.

Saproo later pursued a five-year dual degree (BS-MS) at the IISER Pune, where he continued his activism alongside academic research.[1]

Maunitva Nirakaran

[edit]

In 2019, Saproo founded Maunitva Nirakaran (literally "Silence Resolution") to promote mental health literacy, community listening, and non-judgmental spaces for conversation. The initiative employs storytelling, music, and peer support methods to engage students, especially in areas with limited access to mental health resources.[2]

Through workshops, school events, online webinars, and audio podcasts, Maunitva Nirakaran reached over 3,000 young people across multiple Indian states by 2024.[3]

Recognition

[edit]

Saproo was selected as an Ashoka Young Changemaker in 2022, a global program recognizing teen social innovators under the age of 20. He was the first person from Jammu and Kashmir to receive this recognition.[4]

His work has also been featured by Peace First, The Bespoke Diaries, and several educational podcasts focused on mental health, youth empowerment, and social change.
