Keith Riegert is a New York City–based entrepreneur and book publisher who serves as CEO and Publisher of Ulysses Press and Velo Press Books, CEo and co-founder of Perfect Bound, and co-founder of the Stable Book Group..[1]
He is also the author of a number of novelty books for children, teens, and adults.[2]
In July 2024, he joined the Independent Book Publishers Association's Board of Directors[1] and also serves on the Advisory Board of the Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media Program at New York University[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Keith Riegert grew up in California and moved to New York City.[4]
Riegert earned a B.A. in Literature from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara and an M.B.A. from the NYU Stern School of Business. While in business school, he served as co-President/Editor-in-Chief of NYU Stern’s Graduate Student Newspaper, the Stern Opportunity.[5]
Career
[edit]Ulysses Press was founded 1983 by Ray Riegert and Leslie Henriques, Keith Riegert's parents, in Berkeley, California. [6]
He joined the company in 2008 in the role of acquisitions editor,[7] left to attend graduate school, and worked at Hachette before being named Publisher of Ulysses Press in 2019.[8]
In 2022, Riegert and Alyson Forbes, COO of Catapult Books, launched a marketplace for book publishers and book manufacturers called Perfect Bound. As of 2024, Perfect Bound has brought 160 publishers into the platform and has been responsible for "more than one million dollars in business."[9]
In April 2023, Ulysses Press announced acquired health and fitness publisher VeloPress from Outside Interactive, Inc. and made it an imprint of Ulysses Press.[10]
Riegert collaborated with Holly Schmidt and Bruce Lubin, co-founders of Spot Gloss Media, to form Bluestone Books in January 2025[11]. Bluestone Books is an independent publisher that focuses on "popular culture, practical nonfiction, and concept-driven children’s titles"[12]
In February 2025, Chris Gruener and Keith Riegert launched the Stable Book Group, a collective of independent publishers, including She Writes Press, Trafalgar Square Books, Ulysses Press, VeloPress and Galpón Press (as a client), and Mountain Gazette Books (joining as a partner).[13]
Riegert addressed the book publishing industry on the topic of "Using AI to Supercharge Book Marketing" at the 2025 U.S. Book Show in New York City[14], a subject he is often called upon as an expert.[15][16]
