Katbar Tribe
[edit]The Katbar (Baloch: کٹبار بلوچ) is an ethnic Baloch tribe native to the Balochistan province of Pakistan. The tribe belongs to the Majhani branch of the broader Baloch tribal structure.[1]
Location
[edit]The Katbar tribe primarily inhabits the region of Katbar Shareef and the surrounding areas of the Kacchi District in eastern Balochistan. These areas are known for their historical and cultural significance within Baloch society.
Language
[edit]The Katbar people are bilingual, speaking both Balochi and Farsi (Persian). Balochi is the dominant language, while Persian is spoken due to regional and cross-border influences with Iran.
Ethnic and Tribal Affiliation
[edit]The Katbar are ethnically Baloch and are traditionally organized under the tribal social system common among Baloch communities. They are associated with the Majhani branch, a sub-division of the Baloch people.
Culture and Religion
[edit]Like most Baloch tribes, the Katbar follow Islam, likely adhering to the Sunni tradition. Elements of Sufi influence may also be present, especially in areas labeled "Shareef," which often indicates the presence of a spiritual or religious heritage.
