Kande Gedara is a Sri Lankan television series directed by Ananda Abeynayake which aired on Rupavahini from 1987[1] running for two seasons. It stars Rohana Beddage, Ramya Wanigasekara, Jayalath Manoratne, Jackson Anthony and Kumari Perera as the main cast.[2] The storyline was written by Somaweera Senanayake and its music was composed by Rohana Weerasinghe.[3]
Kande Gedara received critical acclaim for its effective mix of humour and drama and its cross-generational appeal.
Synopsis
[edit]The story is fabricated around a retired headmaster(Bāla Mahattaya) who oversees his rural household land, supported by his compassionate wife(Loku Hāmine) trying to cope with the new generation. Their grown up children, being married seem to get distant from tradition by embracing modernity which creates emotional and cultural tension within the household. The drama brings out the clash between tradition and modernity, parental expectations vs children's independence and how aging parents feel left behind in a world that’s changing around them. [1]
