KRI Golok (688) is the second fast attack stealth trimaran in the Klewang-class from the total of four planned ships which will be launched by PT Lundin Industry Invest for the Indonesian Navy. KRI Golok was built to replace KRI Klewang which burned down in 2012.

Design

[edit]

The design of the KRI Golok 688 is not much different from the previous KRI Klewang 625. The KRI Golok 688 is a trimaran shape is designed so that it ship can carry out hit and run tactics in the waters of the archipelago. KRI Golok has a length of 63 m (207 ft), a beam of 16 m (52 ft), with a draught of 1.2 m (3.9 ft), and displacement of 219 t (216 long tons).[5] The vessel is powered by four MAN V12 diesel engines with total power output of 7,200 horsepower (5.4 MW), which propelled four MJP 550 waterjets, with two located on the outrigger and the other two on the main hull. In addition to that, it also has three Caterpillar C4 generator units.[6] Golok has a maximum speed of 35 knots (65 km/h), with cruising speed at 22 knots (41 km/h).[5] She has a range of around 2,000 nautical miles (3,700 km) at 16 knots (30 km/h). The vessel has a complement of 29 personnel, including a team of special forces.[5]

Golok is armed with a 20 mm Yugoimport M71/08[3] and two 12.7 mm M2 Browning. She also carries a 11 m high-speed rigid-hulled inflatable boat for the special forces team.[5]

The main difference between KRI Golok and KRI Klewang lies in the materials used to make the ship's hull. Evolving from the tragedy of the burning of KRI Klewang, PT. Lundin constructed the hull of KRI Golok with fire-resistant carbon fiber composites. This carbon fiber composite uses carbon fiber combined with polymer resin which reduces radar cross section, makes it stronger, lighter, rust-proof, and increases soundproofing.
