Junior Afolabi Salokun (born 16 August 1990), also known as JR, is a British-Nigerian actor and model known for his roles in British films such as Blue Story (2019).[1] and My Brudda (2023)[2]
Early life and background
[edit]Salokun was born in London to Nigerian immigrant parents. At age 13, he briefly relocated to Lagos with his mother before returning to the UK, an experience that influenced his dual cultural identity.
Career
[edit]Salokun began acting in his youth, navigating limited opportunities for Black actors in British cinema. His breakthrough came with a role in Blue Story, a critically acclaimed film that aired on BBC[1] and was later distributed by Netflix[3]
In 2023, he starred in My Brudda, a drama that garnered media attention for its portrayal of brotherhood and urban struggles. Salokun has expressed interest in expanding his work into Nollywood, aiming for roles that "transcend borders."
