Joseph Pickrell is an American scientist. He formerly was a Principal Investigator at the New York Genome Center. Since 2007 he has been the CEO of Gencove[1]. Pickrell's work spans population genetics and genomics.

Biography

Dr. Pickrell has a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina and a PhD in human genetics from the University of Chicago.[2]

Detecting natural selection in the human gencome

Pickrell identified a number of genetic variants that have been under natural selection in different human populations, including neuregulin and pigmentation genetic outside of Africa[3]

In a separate line of work, Pickrell and Molly Przeworski identified genes and traits that have been evolving under natural selection over the past century[4]
