John Shin is an American cybersecurity executive, entrepreneur, and author. He is the founder and managing director of Cybersecurity firm based in San Diego, California. With over 20 years of experience in information technology and cybersecurity leadership,[1] Shin has contributed to various sectors, including healthcare, finance, and national security.
Education and career
[edit]John Shin earned a B.A at the University of California, San Diego, and he holds an M.B.A. from Rady School of Management.[2] He began his career with a strong interest in information technology and cybersecurity, eventually dedicating his life to improving digital safety for individuals and organizations. Shin's professional trajectory reflects a deep-rooted commitment to cybersecurity awareness and innovation.[citation needed]
He is the founder of a nonprofit organization that promotes cybersecurity awareness and best practices, offering training, workshops, and public resources aimed at empowering communities to protect themselves online, creating a safer digital environment.[3]
Over the course of more than two decades, Shin held leadership roles across multiple sectors, including biotechnology, defense, and financial technology. His early career included management positions at Genoptix, Inc.,[4] where he contributed to the company's rapid growth from $4 million to $210 million in annual revenue.[citation needed] He later served as Senior Director of Engineering and Operations at Abraxas-Cubic Global Defense, where he was responsible for cloud-based identity and security systems for U.S. intelligence agencies.[citation needed] At Verifone, he managed global security operations protecting billions of payment transactions annually.[citation needed]
In addition to his executive roles, Shin is an active member of influential business and leadership organizations, including Prime Movers Lab (Limited Partner), YPO (Young Presidents' Organization), and Entrepreneurs' Organization, where he also serves on the board.[citation needed]
