Joey Primiani is an American designer, entrepreneur, and digital artist. He is best known for his work at the intersection of technology, art, and pop culture, and for founding the creative venture studio Superfuture. A Forbes "30 Under 30" honoree in Consumer Tech, Primiani has contributed to high-profile projects at companies including Google, Lady Gaga’s Backplane, and Studio XO, and is recognized for his design-forward approach to product development.[1][2]

Primiani began designing websites at the age of eight and launched his first company as a child.[3] He studied design and technology and has served as a guest lecturer at Stanford University.

Career

Primiani worked at Google from 2009 to 2013, where he contributed to interface design for the search team and experimental initiatives within Google X.[4] He has also held design roles at Yahoo!, Intuit, and Revision3.

Cortex

In 2010, Primiani launched Cortex, a browser extension that introduced a radial sharing menu for social media platforms. Cortex was praised for its innovative UX and was featured in Fast Company and TechCrunch.[5][6] He holds a U.S. patent for the product’s interaction model.

Backplane and LittleMonsters.com

In 2012, Primiani co-founded Backplane, a social platform backed by Lady Gaga and Eric Schmidt. Its flagship product, LittleMonsters.com, served as a dedicated fan community and multimedia social network.[7]

Studio XO

Primiani worked with London-based fashion-tech firm Studio XO from 2013 to 2018, designing wearable technologies and digital experiences for artists including Lady Gaga. The studio’s work received international recognition including a Cannes Lions Gold.

Superfuture and Folio

In 2021, Primiani founded Superfuture, a venture studio focused on creating design-centric apps and creative tools. In 2022, he co-founded Folio, a platform for digital artists and NFTs. Folio was featured by Vogue, Product Hunt, and NFT Now for its emphasis on artist empowerment.[8][9]
