Jim Segrave

[edit]

Jim Segrave is an American entrepreneur, aviator, and business executive. He is the Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of flyExclusive [1], one of the largest private jet operators in North America. With more than 11,000 hours of flight time, Segrave holds an Airline Transport Pilot License, multiple jet type ratings, and a commercial helicopter license. [2] His ventures have significantly contributed to the growth of the aviation industry and economic development in Eastern North Carolina. [3]

Early Life and Education

[edit]

Segrave developed a passion for aviation early in life and earned his pilot's license at the age of 19. He studied business at East Carolina University, where he now serves on the Board of Trustees.[4] He is also a member of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Industrial Advisory Board and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Leadership Council. [5]

Career

[edit]

Segrave Aviation

[edit]

In 1994, Segrave founded Segrave Aviation, a charter aviation company that also provided aircraft maintenance services and managed airport fueling stations. By 2009, the company operated a fleet of over 50 aircraft. The following year, it was acquired by Delta Air Lines and became Delta Private Jets, the private aviation division of Delta Air Lines.[6]

flyExclusive

[edit]

In 2015, Segrave founded flyExclusive, a vertically integrated FAA-certificated air carrier based in Kinston, North Carolina. [7] The company offers on-demand charter services, Jet Club memberships, and fractional aircraft ownership. [8] As of 2024, flyExclusive operates a fleet of approximately 100 jets, primarily Cessna Citations, making it one of the largest operators of Citation aircraft in the world. [9] [10]

The company differentiates itself through its investment in vertical integration [11], with in-house facilities for aircraft maintenance, electrostatic painting, interior refurbishment, and avionics services.[12] [13]

Going Public

[edit]

On December 28, 2023, flyExclusive went public via a merger with EG Acquisition Corp. [14] [15] The company now trades on the NYSE American under the ticker symbol FLYX.[16] [17]

"We built flyExclusive around the value that minutes matter for our customers, and this principle will continue to guide the disciplined approach that has defined our success." — Jim Segrave [18] [19]

Community Involvement and Recognition

[edit]

Through his holding company, LGM Ventures, Segrave owns and operates a variety of businesses in Eastern North Carolina, including fixed-base operations (FBOs), a daycare center, and a restaurant.

[20] He also serves as an observer of the Board of Directors for Quality Equipment, a large John Deere dealership network, and as Vice Chairman of the Board for L. Harvey & Son, one of North Carolina's oldest privately held companies. Segrave has received numerous honors, including the '''Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizen Award''' [21] and the '''Key to the City of Kinston''' in 2024. [22] He has also been named to the '''North Carolina Power List of Most Influential Leaders''' multiple times. [23]

Personal Life

[edit]

Jim Segrave is married and has four children. His family resides in North Carolina, where he remains active in both civic and business communities. While largely private about his personal life, Segrave has credited his family’s support as a key part of his entrepreneurial success.
