Bender was born Jeanne Ann Reichert on August 13, 1955, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She began writing in third grade and continued throughout high school and college. After a career as a real estate broker, she decided to write children's books to encourage the transition from picture books to chapter books, creating the Lindie Lou Adventure Series with short chapters, large fonts, and color illustrations. The series features a puppy named Lindie Lou who travels and learns life and social-emotional lessons. Each book is set in a unique location and includes maps, history, geography, and real-life conflicts. The books are used as a learning tool in classrooms in the US and in "English as a Second Language" classes in Mexico. The series has received the Mom's Choice GOLD Award, and Book 6, Island Treasure, was the Annual Book Launch Segment at the 2023 New Zealand Literary Association Conference. StoryMonsters.com has given the series its seal of approval.
Since 2015, Bender has spoken at numerous events globally. Her book Flying High became a bestseller. She has been featured in various articles and newsletters, including Appleton Post-Crescent Media, San Diego Tribune, Language Magazine, Norway Today, and Woman's World.
