Jake Thistle (born 2004) is an American singer-songwriter from Paramus, New Jersey. In 2025, *Melodic Magazine* reported that *The Boston Herald* named him a "Rising Music Star to watch." The same article highlighted his collaboration with producer Butch Walker on the single “The City Whispers.”[1]

Early life and education

[edit]

Jake Thistle was born in 2004 in Paramus, New Jersey.[2] He started performing publicly at age nine and is enrolled at Rutgers University, where he majors in Communication and Journalism & Media Studies while balancing touring commitments.[3]

Career

[edit]

His debut album, Down the Line, was self-recorded and self-released in 2020 during the COVID‑19 pandemic.[4] In 2022, he signed with Gold’n Retriever Records and released the EP The Half Left Out, which features the single “Ghosted Road.”[5]

On June 17, 2025, Thistle released “The City Whispers,” described as his first collaboration with producer Butch Walker. Thistle commented that Walker “helped him sharpen his musical sensibility and grow creatively,” while Walker described the song’s storytelling quality as providing “a beautiful, vivid snapshot of him being in that moment.”[6]

Recognition and press

[edit]

At age sixteen, *American Songwriter* stated that Thistle’s “music oozes an authenticity and depth” that echoes legends like Jackson Browne, John Hiatt, Steve Forbert, and Tom Petty. The article added that several members of Petty’s band invited him to perform in Los Angeles as part of a tribute event.[7]
