Dr. Jagadish Vengala is an Indian civil engineer, academic, and innovator recognized for his work in sustainable construction materials, bamboo-based earthquake-resistant design, and professional leadership in engineering education.[1] He is Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Prasad V Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology (PVPSIT), Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh,[2] and Chairman of the Indian Concrete Institute (Vijayawada Centre).[3]

Early Life and Education

Dr. Vengala obtained his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering, M.Tech. in Construction Technology from BMS College of Engineering, and a Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University, with research focused on seismic response and bamboo-based construction systems.[2]

Academic and Professional Career

He has held academic appointments including Head of Civil Engineering at BMSIT&M, Bangalore, and currently leads the department at PVPSIT.[2] Additionally, he was a Scientist at the Indian Plywood Industries Research and Training Institute (IPIRTI), Bangalore, where he conducted R&D on sustainable construction materials.[1] He is actively involved in curriculum development and national innovation initiatives such as the Smart India Hackathon.[4]

Research

Dr. Vengala’s research interests include self-compacting and sustainable concrete, use of alternative construction materials, earthquake-resistant building systems, and embodied energy studies.[5] He has over 30 publications in reputed journals and conferences, and serves as a reviewer for the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering.

  • INAE Innovative PhD Thesis Award (2015)[6]
  • Outstanding Concrete Engineer of Andhra Pradesh (Indian Concrete Institute, 2021)[3]

Professional Service

Dr. Vengala is Chairman, Indian Concrete Institute (Vijayawada), Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and ACCE(I), and Governing Council member of the Bamboo Society of India. He has delivered over 100 invited lectures and organized more than 30 workshops/conferences.[1]

Public Engagement
