Dr. Jagadish Vengala is an Indian civil engineer, academic, and innovator recognized for his work in sustainable construction materials, bamboo-based earthquake-resistant design, and professional leadership in engineering education.^[1] He is Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Prasad V Potluri Siddhartha Institute of Technology (PVPSIT), Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh,^[2] and Chairman of the Indian Concrete Institute (Vijayawada Centre).^[3]

Early Life and Education

Dr. Vengala obtained his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering, M.Tech. in Construction Technology from BMS College of Engineering, and a Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University, with research focused on seismic response and bamboo-based construction systems.^[2]

Academic and Professional Career

He has held academic appointments including Head of Civil Engineering at BMSIT&M, Bangalore, and currently leads the department at PVPSIT.^[2] Additionally, he was a Scientist at the Indian Plywood Industries Research and Training Institute (IPIRTI), Bangalore, where he conducted R&D on sustainable construction materials.^[1] He is actively involved in curriculum development and national innovation initiatives such as the Smart India Hackathon.^[4]

Research

Dr. Vengala’s research interests include self-compacting and sustainable concrete, use of alternative construction materials, earthquake-resistant building systems, and embodied energy studies.^[5] He has over 30 publications in reputed journals and conferences, and serves as a reviewer for the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering.
