Jack Evan Met (né Metzger, born August 16, 1997)[1] is an American musician, known for being the lead vocalist to the indie-pop band AJR[2]
Early life and education
[edit]Met was born on August 16, 1997, in New York[3] His father was Gary Metzger, an architect who died in July 2023;[4] his mother is Laurie Marvald, who began her career as an architect, attending Cornell University, then moving on to entrepreneurship. Laurie created and was one of the original founding partners of AJR Productions, LLC. She held an executive and management role until 2022.
Jack attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan.[5] He and his brothers are Jewish, describing themselves as "culturally Jewish".[6]
Music career
[edit]In 2005, Met co-founded the indie pop band AJR with his brothers Adam and Ryan while living in Chelsea, Manhattan.[7][8][9] The trio began performing live in 2006 by busking in Central Park and Washington Square Park in New York City.[10][11][12] The group released songs such as I'm Ready, Weak, and Bang!.[13][14][15] AJR has released albums such as The Click (2017) and OK Orchestra (2021).[16] Their 2018 song Burn the House Down became associated with the March for Our Lives movement.[17]
In 2017, Met and his brothers released the charity single It's On Us, supporting the "It's On Us" campaign created by Barack Obama and the White House Council on Women and Girls to raise awareness about sexual assault on college campuses.[14][18] On January 17, 2021, AJR performed at the Biden-Harris pre-inauguration We the People virtual concert alongside other artists.[19]
