Izyaslav Onysymovych Kligman (Ukrainian: Ізяслав Онисимович Клігман; June 12, 1927 – May 27, 2006) was a Ukrainian graphic artist, illustrator, and painter known for his Soviet political posters, easel graphics, and book illustrations. His work was exhibited throughout the USSR and internationally, and his pieces are held in national museums in Ukraine.
Early life and education
[edit]Kligman was born in Zinovievsk (now Kropyvnytskyi), Ukraine, on June 12, 1927. He studied at the Odesa Art School under Leonid Muchnyk from 1940 to 1941. After World War II, he worked at the House of Culture in Bobrynets and, beginning in 1951, as a decorative artist for the Odesa Art Fund. He graduated from the Odesa Institute of Foreign Languages in 1955. He later emigrated to the United States and died in Boston on May 27, 2006.
Career
[edit]Kligman produced a wide range of works, including political posters, theatrical and exhibition designs, tourism advertising, easel graphics, and book illustrations.

Exhibitions
[edit]From 1956 to 1958, Kligman participated in the design of the "Kazakhstan" and "Ukraine" pavilions at the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNKh) in Moscow. In 1958, he worked on the Ukrainian SSR pavilion at the Marseille International Exhibition. He also contributed to the USSR’s displays at Expo 58 in Brussels and the Leipzig Trade Fair.

Solo exhibitions were held in Odesa (1993) and New Jersey (1998).
Legacy
[edit]His works are preserved in the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv and the National Museum in Lviv, as well as in private collections across Europe and the United States.
