Ismatulla Rahimov (1883–1962) was a prominent educator and intellectual from Uzbekistan. He was deeply involved in educational reforms and was an advocate for modern, progressive pedagogical ideas. Rahimov was a supporter of the Jadid movement, which sought to modernize Central Asian education and society.
Rahimov studied at the Abduqodir Shakuriy school, a progressive educational institution, and later worked as a teacher and school administrator. He was instrumental in founding new schools and educational initiatives, especially in Samarqand, where he played a significant role in establishing 35 new schools between 1917 and 1919. His contributions were also in publishing textbooks, such as the influential *"Maktab uchun qo‘llanma"* (Handbook for Schools), which became one of the key resources for teaching literacy.
Aside from his educational work, Rahimov was involved in the broader cultural and intellectual movements of his time. However, his career was not without adversity; he faced political repression, being imprisoned twice during the Stalinist purges in the late 1930s and 1940s.
Rahimov's legacy includes his contributions to Uzbek education and his role in the intellectual and cultural development of the region.
