Harakat Jabhat ash-Sham al-Islamiyya (Arabic: حركة أحرار الشام الإسلامية, romanized: Ḥarakat Jabhāt aš-Šām al-Islāmiyah, lit. 'Islamic Movement of the suporters Levant Front '), commonly referred to as Jabhat Ansar al-sham, was a coalition of multiple Sunni Islamist units that coalesced into a single brigade and later a division in order to fight against the Syrian Government led by Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian Civil War. Jabhat ansar ash-Sham was founded in early 2012 under the name Kata'ib Jabhat Ansar al-sham (front for the supporters of the Levant) was led by Mohamud Ali until his death in 2016, were the group had some internal issues with the more radical elements clashing with the secular groups within JAAS.
