Interview with Marilyn is a 2019 American psychological drama short film written and directed by Agatino Zurría, starring Rosalinda Rodriguez. It focuses on Marilyn Moreno, a Marilyn Monroe Lookalike Latin actress who is interviewed in a television show about her career, but the questions confront her with the mysterious vanishing of her latest film's director, which lead her to lose control of reality.
The film was produced by AZCAfilms, and Bonjour America Media Group.
Agatino Zurría completed the script in 2018, drawing upon his own experiences trying to move to L.A. to pursue a Film career, yet being held in Miami, Florida, by previous engagements.
Casting began when Agatino met Rosalinda Rodriguez in an award show, and he sent her the script with little information about it. Rosalinda was excited about the opportunity, but didn't know which character he was offering her. "Marilyn, of course".
Once the rest of the cast and crew were on board, shooting began in different parts of Miami: Coral Gables, South Beach, and Homestead, with all the main interior shots at the Bonjour America TV studios in Calle 8.
The music was composed by Chilean-American composer María del Sol, who submitted several themes, which were later interpreted by Venezuelan musicians Gilberto Ferrer, Francisco Quintero, Adolfo Herrera, Elvis Martínez, Anthony Perez, and María del Sol, all under the production of Ronald Guerra. The theme song "Born to be a Star", composed by María del Sol, is sung by Rebecca Longtemps and recorded at Victor Romero's studio in Miami Springs, Florida.
All the wardrobe reproductions were created by Angela Carbonaro, the Makeup by Jeanny Arréaza, and the art direction was produced by Rita Abreu, with production management by Bobby Reynolds. Agatino Zurría was assisted by second unit and script supervisor Luba Parada.
The film had a private screening at the Coral Gables Art Cinema on March 10th, 2019, ahead of its release for the festival circuit throughout 2019, 2020, and 2021, participating in 30 competitions and winning 24 awards in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Florence, Milan and Oaxaca, México.

Critical response
[edit]An article about Interview with Marilyn appeared on page 5 of the Fall 2020 issue of Independent Streak Magazine in which the writer, Rachel Galvin noted that: "The twist at the end is worth waiting for, but what makes the film most watchable is the lighting, editing and wardrobe. The way they were able to make Rodriguez really look similar to Marilyn downt to the iconic photos is amazing. The black and white film noir quality of the picture adds to the drama, as does the Jazzy music and collage clips of the Miami lights and architecture mixed with Marilyn's beaming smile as she dreams of a better tomorrow..."
Adrian Perez, in his review for the Lonely Wolf Film Festival, said: "Zurria's concept analysis is exceptional, endearingly executed through black-and-white Classical Hollywood aesthetic, tempo-rhythmic tenacity, and Rosalinda Rodriguez's infectiously charming performance, where she pushes past her Marilyn Monroe facade into her unique quirks and personal magnetism. Zurria's 2021 dramedy mystical, relevant, and irresistible to watch. Bravo!".
Short Films Matter website praised the direction and editing, writing: "Filmed almost completely in black and white, the short is a love letter, through fantasy, to classic Americana and the Hollywood system". It concluded: "Zurria’s short delivers in its creative ambitions. The thriller takes viewers through the glamorous Hollywood system, flaws and all. Rosalinda Rodriguez carries the film throughout – her bilingual portrayal of the Latino immigrant actress deserves applause and provides for entertaining viewing. Writer/director Agatino Zurria succeeds in delivering a unique narrative with compelling performances, stunning cinematography, and a flowing soundtrack. ‘Interview with Marilyn’ is a short film not to be overlooked."
