Inigo Lopez de la Osa Franco (born 22 September 2003 in Monaco) is a Monegasque show jumping rider.[1] He was the first male athlete to represent the Principality of Monaco in the Global Champions League.[2][3]

Career

[edit]

Born in Monaco to a Spanish father and Italian mother, he began riding horses at the age of 12, following in the footsteps of his father, Inigo Lopez de la Osa Escribano, a former rider.[4][5]

He started competing internationally at the age of 13 with the Spanish youth national team, taking part in the Nations Cup circuit in the Children and Junior categories.[5]

In 2020, being born and resident in Monte Carlo, he accepted an offer from the Monegasque Olympic Committee to represent Monaco in international competitions. He made his debut at the Junior European Championships in Vilamoura.[5]

After obtaining a Monegasque passport, he took part in three more Junior European Championships: in 2022 in Oliva (Spain), in 2023 in Gorla Minore (Italy), where he finished 14th individually, and in 2024 in Kronenberg (Netherlands).[1][5]

In 2021, he moved to the Netherlands to train under Piet Raijmakers, Olympic gold medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Games.[4][5]

In 2024, he relocated to Metz, France, to train with Simon Delestre, team bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and his father Marcel Delestre.[2][4][6]

In 2025, he made his debut in the Global Champions League with the Stockholm Hearts team, taking part in the opening stage in Doha, becoming the first Monegasque male rider to compete in the event.[3][5][7]

In March 2025, he also competed in the U25 event of the prestigious Saut Hermes in Paris, a CSI5* show held at the Grand Palais Ephémère.[1]
