Biography
[edit]Born on December 25, 1975 in the village of Zolotinka (now Neryungrinsky district of the Republic of Yakutia-Sakha) in a family of BAM builders. Russian. He grew up and graduated from high school in the village of Novaya Chara, Kalarsky District, Chita region. In the direction of the district military enlistment office in SPTU No. 33 of Chita, he received the profession of a driver. He worked in the construction department in the village of Novaya Chara[3]
In January 1994, he was drafted into the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He served first in Chita, in a training unit. Then, in December of the same year — in one of the motorized rifle units of the Ural Military District. As a member of the 324th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Ural Military District, he fought in Chechnya[4]
On February 3, 1995, Senior sergeant Moldovanov, as part of a company operating in the vanguard of the regiment, was one of the first to reach the intersection near the village of Prigorodny, skillfully chose a firing position and covered the advance of the main forces of the company. During the battle, he destroyed the enemy's firing point[5][6]
On March 13, 1995, during the capture of a fortified dairy farm south of Chechen-Aul, our units were stopped by heavy militant fire. Acting as a signalman, Moldovanov ensured uninterrupted communication of the company commander with subordinates and attached units, which contributed to the successful solution of the problem. During the battle, he personally destroyed a grenade launcher crew[7]
Having received orders to cover the evacuation of the wounded, he took a place in the infantry fighting vehicle and moved to the south-eastern outskirts of a dairy farm, where one of the platoons suffered losses. Having taken up a convenient firing position, allowing him to cover his comrades who were carrying out the wounded, he, in fact, switched the fire of the militants to himself. During the battle, the BMP was hit and caught fire. Having been wounded and burned, Senior Sergeant Moldovanov did not leave his combat post, but continued to fire from the flaming car until the ammunition exploded[8][9]
By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 059 of October 19, 1995, Senior Sergeant Igor V. Moldovanov was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation for his courage and heroism in performing a special task.
He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Chara, Kalarsky District (Chita region)[10]
On March 27, 1996, the Gold Star medal and award documents were handed over to the Hero's father[11][12]
In the village of Novaya Chara there is a street named after Igor Moldovanov. A memorial plaque has been unveiled on the school building where the Hero studied. The school itself is named after the Hero[13]
As a sign of respect for the memory of Igor Moldovanov, NITron , a 15-year-old resident of the village of Novaya Chara, wrote a song dedicated to the Hero of Russia. The teenager, together with his comrades, recorded a song that became a symbol of memory and appreciation for the heroism of Igor Moldovanov. Information about the song is distributed in local media and online platforms dedicated to the history of the village and the region[14]
