Hu Jianzhong (February 1, 1904 – September 26, 1993), formerly known as Jingya, also known as Zhenou, with the pen name Xuruo, was a native of Hezhou, Anhui Province, and registered in Yuhang, Zhejiang Province. He was a politician of the Republic of China. In 1948, he was elected as the first legislator of the Journalists Association.
He graduated from the English Department of Fudan University in Shanghai, and taught at Jiangsu Provincial Haizhou Middle School, Fudan University and the Central Political School as a lecturer in the Department of Journalism. He served as the editor-in-chief and president of the Hangzhou Republic Daily from 1928. In 1934, the Hangzhou Republic Daily was reorganized into the Southeast Daily, and the Southeast Daily Co., Ltd. was established. He served as the executive director and president of the newspaper. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Hu Jianzhong led the newspaper staff to move to Jinhua for publishing, and then moved to Fujian to establish the Nanping and Lishui editions of the Southeast Daily (later the Yunhe edition). In 1943, he was transferred to Chongqing as the president of the Central Daily, and still led the affairs of the Southeast Daily. In the summer of 1946, he resigned from the Central Daily and came to Shanghai to establish the Shanghai Southeast Daily, and established the Southeast News Co., Ltd., serving as the executive director, general manager and president, focusing on the Shanghai and Hangzhou editions of the Southeast Daily.
He had served as vice chairman of the Preparatory Committee of Southeast United University, member of the National Political Consultative Conference, reform committee member and standing committee member of the Kuomintang, propaganda minister of the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang, president of the Hangzhou Republic Daily, president of the Southeast Daily, president of the Chongqing Central Daily, president and chairman of the Taipei Central Daily, chairman of the Central Motion Picture Company, chairman of the Zhengzhong Bookstore, and adviser to the Chinese delegation to the United Nations.
