Hendrik Barnardus Aucamp (Burgersdorp, Cape Colony, 9 June 1877 – Bethulie (probably), 1 August 1964) was a farmer, Cape Rebel, one of the first members of the National Party and a leader of the party in the North-Eastern Cape.
Aucamp's parents were Pieter Louis Stefanus and Hester du Plessis. His father moved with his parents from the Graaff-Reinet district to the Albert district around 1850. His father was one of the founders of the Burgersdorp Reformed Church, the first in the Cape Colony, on 21 January 1860; his name appears as such in the congregation's first membership register. He also served in the border wars.
Aucamp was educated in Burgersdorp and joined Cmdr. Steenekamp as a Cape Rebel at the outbreak of the Second War of Independence in October 1899. On 5 March 1900 he was captured and first sent to East London, from there by ship to Cape Town and after 10 months to the island of St. Helena. Only six months after the peace in May 1902 was he sent back to South Africa. After the peace he was sentenced to another six months in prison.
His wife was in the concentration camp at Norvalspont. All their belongings were confiscated during the war. His father was also sent to the camp when he was already 78 years old and the family stayed there for 14 months.
Aucamp was one of the first members of the National Party. He was secretary of the Knapdaar branch for eight years and then chairman of the Kareepoort branch and vice-chairman of the district administration of Venterstad, where he farmed on the farm Rus. He was a delegate from Burgersdorp to the Reunification Congress in Bloemfontein, and to party congresses in Victoria West, Oudtshoorn and Ceres, among others. He also served on the electoral commission of his party several times.
He married Hester Maria van der Walt (1881–1973) in his native town on 11 January 1897. Seven children were born to this marriage. The couple apparently spent their last years in Bethulie.
