Hayden Malcom Harris (born November 4th, 2000) is an American football defensive end for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). Harris joined Buffalo's talented roster as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft on April 26th, 2025[1].

Early Life

Harris grew up in the quaint town of Mill Creek, Washington, which is approximately 26 miles North of Seattle, His family is from both Seattle, WA and Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Harris is part of a lineage of family scholar athletes which includes his paternal grandfather, David L. Mills..[2] Mills who was selected by the Syracuse Nets in the 1961 NBA draft. Harris' siblings were also collegiate athletes participating in both football and volleyball. [[3]]

Harris participated.in many sports including soccer, baseball, basketball, and football. Harris ultimately landed on football area of concentration of focus because of his love for the quarterback position. Harris tells many that he learned the game of football through the eyes of a quarterback.

University Readiness

Harris created consistent value as a multi‑positional athlete for Eastside Catholic High School. Although recruited primarily as an athlete, earning All‑Metro League honors.. and all‑state honors. He also contributed as a quarterback, receiver, and linebacker showcasing the physicality that would eventually drive his transition to the defensive line. While in high school during his senior year, his team won the WIAA State 3A championship over O'Dea High School[4]. This was followed up with an invitation to compete in the GEICO bowl where Eastside Catholic met Centennial High School (AZ). Harris and his Crusaders soundly defeated their opponent.

His high school profile secured a meaningful recruiting assessment that resulted with a scholarship offer to attend his dream school,[5] UCLA.

College Career

Harris' chapters while attending UCLA was rewarding. Out of the many scholarships offers, received, his "dream" university was UCLA.

He knew that academically he was qualified to be accepted but wondered when and if he would land on their radar. After a few outreach letters were written and mailed, he got a call from his coach, Jeremy Thielbahr, who informed that a few coaches would like to speak with him. Hayden was able to play football for his "dream" school.

Harris red‑shirted in 2019 and remained a rotational contributor through 2022, aligning with the Bruins' edge‑rush contingency plan while logging meaningful snaps. After finally getting some in-game action in 2022 and graduating with his Bachelor's of Science degree, Harris announced he was leaving Westwood as a graduate transfer upon being awarded an additional two years of athletic eligibility.[6]

In 2023, Harris transferred to the University of Montana to optimize his defensive snap count. In 2024 he logged 52 tackles,[7] 17.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks, earning second‑team All‑Big Sky recognition. His 2025 pro‑day metrics including a 4.67‑second 40‑yard dash and 25 bench‑press reps validated his athletic ROI for NFL scouts.

In 2023, Harris helped lead the Grizzles with stout defensive end play which resulted in the team reaching the FCS championship in Frisco, Texas. Although the team did not reach it planned outcome, the season was a monumental success, and a turnaround from the previous season.[8]
