Hasan Yaqoob (born 1983) is an Indian public policy professional, legal and corporate affairs expert whose career spans over 25 years with contributions to various sectors including telecommunications, e-commerce, legal practice, government advisory and society upliftment initiatives through Corporate Social Responsibility.

Yaqoob is widely renowned for his efforts in bridging the gaps between corporate innovation and social impact, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, where he has led initiatives in youth employment, MSME empowerment, AI policy development, and e-commerce integration, along with dedicated efforts towards public sector development.

He has served many MNCs like Vodafone, WalmartFlipkart, Reliance Communication, Reliance Jio- HFCL, Inmobi and holds multiple honorary advisory and leadership roles in the Uttar Pradesh Government and other organisations. He is currently Honorary Advisor to the Chairman (District Magistrate) District Disaster Management Authority, Lucknow, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Member Artificial Intelligence Committee, Department of IT & Electronics, and Government of Uttar Pradesh and Co-Chairman ASSOCHAM Development Council.[1], Uttar Pradesh. He also frequently assist and extends honorary support in facilitating corporate CSR contribution towards the distinguished noble initiatives of Raj Bhawan, lucknow, under the esteemed leadership of Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

Early Life and Education

Hasan Yaqoob was born into a family with a strong legal legacy. His grandfather and father were both respected figures in the legal community. His late father, Haider Yaqoob, was a renowned legal lawyer and had also served Medical Health Department of the Uttar Pradesh Government. Growing up in such an environment, Yaqoob was exposed to the subjects of justice, advocacy and public service from a very young age.

He completed his high school and intermediate education from Colvin Taluqdar’s College in 1996 -1998. He completed his bachelor degree in Science in the year 2001 and  after getting inspired by his family’s legacy, Yaqoob pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Shia P. G. College, University of Lucknow in 2004. In order to complement his legal education with managerial and corporate expertise, he completed his Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations in 2007.

Yaqoob began his legal practice in cybercrime at the Lucknow Sessions and High Court under the mentorship of Advocate Askari Anwar, a distinguished criminal lawyer. One of his first notable cases was helping a young man, who had been wrongly imprisoned for a scuffle, get released from judicial custody. This helped him garner appreciation from the community and solidified his passion in using his knowledge and expertise to help the underprivileged.

He then steadily went on to carve out a path for himself, particularly in cyber law and technology related cases, which were then emerging areas of legal practice. When practicing law before the Lucknow Bench of the Hon’ble High Court of Allahabad, he gained a reputation for his quick turnarounds, effective litigation strategies and a deep understanding of digital legal frameworks. His ability to interpret and apply evolving laws in the areas of cybercrime and information technology made him one of the early experts in his field in Uttar Pradesh.

Transition to Corporate Law

After building his reputation as a dependable and quick-thinking lawyer, he began receiving cases from corporate clients and caught the attention of leading companies.  He played a leading role in organizing Uttar Pradesh’s first Telecommunications Lok Adalat, which was focused on solving old customer payment issues for Reliance Communications. This was a new and faster way to resolve disputes outside the regular courts. His efforts helped clear many delayed cases quickly and efficiently, which eventually drew the attention of senior executives within the company. Impressed by his results, Anil Ambani’s office personally approached Yaqoob and offered him a position as Legal Manager for Reliance Communications in Uttar Pradesh, which he chose to accept.

At Reliance, he not only handled litigation and legal compliance but also expanded the company’s legal outreach by building a network of district-level lawyers across all of Uttar Pradesh. His success in handling consumer forums, recovery suits, labour cases, and criminal matters soon led to his promotion into broader roles covering corporate and government affairs. Following his success at Reliance, Yaqoob continued to rise through the ranks in the corporate world. He held leading positions in other prominent companies such as Tikona Digital Networks, Reliance Jio- HFCL, Vodafone Idea, and Walmart-owned Flipkart.

In addition, he serves as Chairman of the UP E-commerce and Logistics Council, where he advises on improving logistics infrastructure, promoting digital access for small businesses, and aligning state commerce with national and global digital markets.

Hasan Yaqoob has consistently used his expertise, influence and networks to bring about grassroots social change, especially in his home state of Uttar Pradesh. Youth Employment One of Yaqoob’s most significant social contributions has been the upliftment of youth. Through his roles in various corporate firms, he has helped over 1,000 youths from Uttar Pradesh secure jobs in various sectors like telecommunications, e-commerce and logistics. Many of these youth came from underprivileged backgrounds and Yaqoob took it upon himself to upskill and mentor them.

He was a prominent driving force behind the success of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. Under his guidance:

  • ODOP product sales exceeded ₹2,500 crores on Flipkart over three years.
  • ODOP and Khadi storefronts were launched, giving global access to locally made goods.
  • Thousands of artisans and women entrepreneurs gained market access, which helped increase their incomes and financial independence.

Yaqoob has also worked with farmers, helping them learn how to use online platforms to sell their produce and expand their businesses[3]. He has supported many Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) in their capacity building in the field agriculture through technology interventions, where he helped farmers become more confident and independent in promoting and selling their crops digitally.[4]
