  • Comment: DoubleGrazing's comments are not yet resolved, please fix them. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:13, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
  • Comment: The referencing is a complete mess. There are multiple citations to support statements, where only one would do. Meanwhile, there are entire sections without a single citation. There are also citations in section headings, where it isn't clear at all which source is meant to support what content in the section.
Then there is a large number of external links listed under 'References', which are not cited anywhere, so arguably aren't references at all. If the author is wishing to rely on those to establish notability, they need to be cited inline in the usual manner.
Speaking of notability, I've no idea on what basis this is being claimed. The sources certainly don't satisfy WP:GNG. There are extravagant claims of 'renown' etc. but these seem little more than peacockery.
If special WP:AUTHOR or WP:NACADEMIC notability is being asserted, please state clearly on what basis this is, and what evidence supports such an assertion.
Finally, note that this is now the 8th review by the 8th different reviewer, and the draft is therefore nearing the end of the road. I hope the next submission will be more convincing, because otherwise this may well be rejected outright. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:25, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: stuffed with primary sources and commercial links to buy books, YouTube and The Times of India none of these are reliable. Theroadislong (talk) 06:42, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: Commercial links to purchase books need to be removed they are NOT useful sources. Theroadislong (talk) 07:04, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: Fails WP:NAUTHOR - Amazon.in is not an acceptable or reliable independent source. Needs to be more than mentions in passing or inclusion on lists. Dan arndt (talk) 06:07, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Gyan Chand Jain (born March 28, 1932) is an Indian author and publisher renowned for his contributions to Electronics and Computer Science education. He is the founder and chairman of BPB Publications [1], [2],, a publishing house specializing in books on information technology, computer science, and electronics. In 2002, he was awarded Padma Shri [3], [4],[5],[6] India’s fourth-highest civilian award, by the Government of India for his contributions to IT education.

Early Life and Education

[edit]

Jain was born in Giddarbaha, a town in the Punjab, region of British India (now in India). He developed an early interest in electronics and completed a diploma in radio servicing. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rajendra Govt College, Bhatinda, in 1956.

Career

[edit]

Jain began his professional journey as an author-publisher in the field of hobby electronics. His first book, Build Your Own Transistor Radio, was published in 1959, targeting school students interested in electronics. Over the following decades, he authored more than 40 titles focused on hobby electronics, radio, and television servicing.

In 1958, Jain founded BPB Publications, which later became one of the prominent IT and electronics publishers in South Asia. The company initially focused on electronics and hobbyist materials but later expanded into computer science and information technology.

In the early 1990s, BPB Publications partnered with an American computer book publisher to release low-priced editions of popular computer science textbooks for the Indian and Asian markets. This initiative significantly contributed to accessible IT education in the region.

Contributions

[edit]

Under Jain’s leadership, BPB Publications has published more than 6,000 titles, many of which have been included in academic curricula at universities and technical institutions. The publishing house has also supported translations and regional editions to expand access to educational resources across India.

In addition to his publishing career, Jain has been actively involved in founding schools and supporting educational and religious institutions.

Awards and Recognition

[edit]
  • Padma Shri (2002) – Awarded by the Government of India for contributions to IT education.[7], [8]
  • Varishth Samman Utsav (2023) – Recognition for his contributions to India’s IT education landscape.[9] [10] [11]

Legacy
