Greshma Pious Raju is an Indian peacebuilder, environmental educator, and interfaith leader. She founded Ecopeace Teen Cafe, an online educational initiative, and holds leadership roles in organizations including the United Religions Initiative (URI), Earth Charter International, and Our Kids’ Climate.
Early life and education
[edit]Born and raised in Kerala, India, Greshma earned a BA in English Language and Literature and an MA in English.[1]. In 2019, she completed an MA in International Peace Studies at the UN‑mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, during which she interned at the Earth Charter International Secretariat [2].
Career
[edit]Greshma served as a Youth Ambassador for URI for several years and currently works as a Global Council Trustee (Multiregion) [2]. She is also a member of the Youth Council of the UNEP–Faith for Earth Initiative and serves as Community & Fellowship Manager at Our Kids’ Climate [3].
In 2019, Greshma completed Earth Charter’s “Leadership, Sustainability, and Ethics” course and led sustainability workshops at a Kerala high school as part of her engagement with the Earth Charter movement [4].
Ecopeace Teen Cafe
[edit]In October 2021, Greshma launched Ecopeace Teen Cafe, an online transformative education and dialogue platform for teenagers, based on Earth Charter principles [5]. The first cohort included 29 students from across India. Programs have since expanded internationally in English, Spanish, and French [4].
Key initiatives include:
- The “Plant‑a‑Peace‑Tree” Earth Day campaign (22 April 2024) [5].
- The “Climate Actions Through the Roads Not Taken” workshop in Punalur, Kerala (25 March 2023) [5].
- Tree-planting and intergenerational dialogue at Karickam International Public School, Kerala (10 May 2023) [5].
The initiative has been recognized by The Pollination Project and featured by the United Religions Initiative [5][6]
Philosophy and impact
[edit]Greshma promotes eco‑spiritual dialogue and believes that “small acts of love and compassion will create positive changes in the global community”.[1]. Her work is rooted in Earth Charter values, particularly Principle 16 on tolerance and non‑violence [4]
