Taekwondo (Korean: 태권도) is a Korean martial art emphasizing high, fast kicks and dynamic striking. It is practiced as both a sport and a form of self-defense, incorporating physical, mental, and philosophical training.

The Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation (GTTF) was established on May 16, 2023, to preserve traditional Taekwondo values and training methods in response to the increasing sport-orientation of the art.[1] On September 12, 2024, GTTF was registered as a charitable nonprofit in North Carolina, USA, and obtained an IRS Employer Identification Number.

Mission and Philosophy

[edit]

GTTF promotes the five core disciplines of traditional Taekwondo—Poomsae, Kyorugi, ho‑sin‑sool (self-defense), kyukpa (breaking), and do‑deok (ethics)—with an emphasis on mental discipline and character development. The federation aligns its standards with Kukkiwon principles.[2]

Activities and Global Reach

[edit]

As of June 2025, GTTF operates in over 166 countries with national and regional chapters. On May 16, 2025, it hosted a global "Kick‑a‑thon" to commemorate its 2nd anniversary and support traditional Taekwondo worldwide.[3]

Certification

[edit]

GTTF awards Poom and Dan advances to registered members who pass training and evaluation conducted via national representatives.
