Draft:Gift War (1763)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gift War (1763) was a brief and largely symbolic diplomatic conflict between the Kingdom of Sweden and the Beylik of Tunis. The dispute arose when Swedish ships carrying customary diplomatic gifts to the Bey of Tunis were delayed due to the ongoing Seven Years' War. Interpreting the delay as a breach of protocol or disrespect, the Bey declared war on Sweden. However, the conflict ended almost immediately upon the arrival of the ships and the delivery of the gifts. No known battles were fought, and the incident is often cited as an example of ceremonial or gift-based diplomacy in the 18th century.
