Frank Bures is an American writer and essayist[1]. He is the author of Pushing the River: An Epic Battle, a Lost History, a Near Death, and Other True Canoeing Stories[2], The Geography of Madness: Penis Thieves, Voodoo Death and the Search for the Meaning of the World's Strangest Syndromes[3][4][5], and the editor of Under Purple Skies: The Minneapolis Anthology[6][7]. He produces audio history tours for VoiceMap[8], and his work has been selected for the Best American Travel Writing,[9] the Lowell Thomas Award[10] and other awards.

Personal Life

Bures grew up in Winona, Minnesota,[11] attended St. Olaf College,[12] and has lived in Tanzania[13], Italy[14], Thailand[15] and other places. He lives in Minneapolis.[16]
