Draft:Elizabeta Betinski

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  • Comment: Well done on creating the draft, and it may potentially meet the relevant requirements (including WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO, WP:NCREATIVE) but presently it is not clear that it does.
As you may know, Wikipedia's basic requirement for entry is that the subject is notable. Essentially subjects are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. To properly create such a draft page, please see the articles ‘Your First Article’, ‘Referencing for Beginners’ and ‘Easier Referencing for Beginners’.
Please note that some of the references would appear to be from sources that are NOT considered reliable for establishing notability and should be removed (including blogs, company websites, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Spotify etc).
The draft does not appear to show that the subject has any notability beyond the average coverage in trade publications for similar creatives (see WP:ROTM).
Also, if you have any connection to the subject, including being the subject (see WP:AUTOBIO) or being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link).
Please familiarise yourself with these pages before amending the draft. If you feel you can meet these requirements, then please make the necessary amendments before resubmitting the page. It would help our volunteer reviewers by identifying, on the draft's talk page, the WP:THREE best sources that establish notability of the subject.
It would also be helpful if you could please identify with specificity, exactly which criteria you believe the page meets (eg "I think the page now meets WP:ANCREATIVE criteria #XX, because XXXXX").
Once you have implemented these suggestions, you may also wish to leave a note for me on my talk page and I would be happy to reassess. Cabrils (talk) 07:41, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

Elizabeta Betinski (born 1974) is a film director, producer, writer, and curator based in Los Angeles, California. Her work frequently addresses themes related to conflict, authoritarianism, and social justice.

Early life and education

[edit]

Betinski was born in Belgrade, then part of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, to Macedonian parents. She attended Yugoslav and French preschool programs and later primary and secondary school in Belgrade. During high school, she participated in the 1991-1992 anti-war protests. She emigrated to the United States during the breakup of Yugoslavia. Betinski earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairhaven College in 1998, with an interdisciplinary focus on fine art and social issues. She later received an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in 2012.

Career

[edit]

Betinski began her career in the arts in 1999 as a studio manager for political artist Robbie Conal. In 2003, she founded Overtones Gallery, an independent contemporary art space in Los Angeles. The gallery organized over 40 exhibitions and featured work by more than 100 national and international artists, with a focus on politically engaged art.[1][2]

In 2010, she served as co-editor of L.A. Rising: SoCal Artists Before 1980, an anthology on artists active during the formative years of the Los Angeles art scene.[3] In 2014, Betinski founded bardoLA, a nonprofit arts organization focused on international dialogue and collaboration through art and culture.[4][5] As executive director of bardoLA, she curated and produced exhibitions in a variety of international contexts, including installations at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt[6][7] and Collateral Events at La Biennale di Venezia in 2015[8][9][10], 2019[11],and 2022.[12][13][14]

In 2017, Betinski served as executive director of the inaugural edition of Desert X, a site-specific contemporary art exhibition in California’s Coachella Valley.[15][16][17]  In 2023, she participated as a producer in the seventh edition of Biennale College Cinema VR, a virtual reality development program organized by the Venice Film Festival.[18]

Film

[edit]

In 2024, Betinski began directing her debut narrative feature film, DADA: A Defiant Witness, inspired by the true story of investigative journalist Dada Vujasinović. Vujasinović, known for her reporting during the Yugoslav wars, was found dead in her Belgrade apartment on 8 April 1994 under unresolved circumstances. Principal photography began in Belgrade in 2024, with completion expected in 2025.[19][20][21]
