Career
[edit]- Dr. Sher Singh Sangwan was State Bank of India Chair Professor in the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development(CRRID), Chandigarh during 2012-18.
- Earlier, he served in NABARD as an Agricultural Economist in 8 states and retired as a GM Manager (1983-2008).
- In NABARD, his special postings were as Faculty Member in the National Bank Staff College,Lucknow, District Development Manager(DDM) Dehradun and State In-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar.
- During his posting in Dehradun as (DDM,1990-96), he prepared potential Linked Credit Plans (PLPs) of the district and he was pioneer in launching microfinance/ Self Help Groups(SHGs). He even emulated his DDM experinces of PLPs and SHGs in the far-eastern state of Arunaclhal Pradesh as an officer Incharge of the state
- In NABARD, he conducted monitoring and evaluation studies of projects/programs in agriculture and rural infrastructure viz., tube wells, tractors, harvester combines, dairy, poultry, fisheries, horticulture, cold storage, rural godowns, roads and bridges, IRDP, microfinance/self Help groups, gold loans, Kisan Credit cards, agro-industries, etc.
- Prior to joining NABARD, he taught in Haryna Govermnent schools as a Scince teacher(1971-78) and Assistant Professor at Sri Aurobindo College, Malviya nagar of Delhi University(1980-83)
Education
[edit]- He completed his Ph.D in 1986 and M.phil (1981) from JNU, New Delhi .
- To start with he compled B.Sc(Non medical) in 1970 and B.Ed. in 1971 and immediately joined as a science Teacher in a Goverment Schools of Haryana and becoeme regular too in 1972. After struggling for 5 years to uplift his marginal family; he did MA (economics) from the night college Bhiwani with a first class first position in the Kurukshetra University.in 1978. Then, he left the job of teacher and joined JNU.
Experience
[edit]During the last 47 years, he has published about 120 articles* in International & National academic journals viz.,EPW, Indian Journla of Agricultural Economics,Journal of Developing Economies of Japan, Mainstream, Indian Journal of Agricultural Marketing, Rural Bankers,etc and National dailies like The Tribune (E/H), The Indian Express, Times of India, etc. Most of his reaserch is based upom primary data and newspaper articles on issues from the ground. At present, living in Rohtak and he still writes on curremt social and economic issues the Tribunem Times of India, etc.References

[edit]Born in desrt type rae of east while Mohindergarh district boardreing Rajasthan. His paarent were not educated and supported thye famiky with farming on uniriigated land 5 hectares which only give khari crops till 1970s
