Dr Heinz Funkenpumpe is a pseudonymous London-based remix project active since the late 1990s which has gained a following through platforms such as Bandcamp & SoundCloud and YouTube. It has also been featured on the BBC
Musical Style
[edit]Dr Funkenpumpe works are rooted in remix culture and often juxtapose 1970s and 1980s soul, funk, and reggae vocals with deep-groove loops, re-edited rhythms, and layered jazz instrumentation. The project emerged on the remix scene in 2006 with the release of the breakout remix of “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, blending vocals from The Temptations with reggae and disco instrumentation and visuals from Soul Train. The projects signature style includes the use of vintage source material; Cross-genre blending, often including rare groove and dub influences; Visual v-mixes combining music and archival video clips. Reception and Influence
[edit]Despite being a non-commercial venture the project has received acclaim including airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music. All the tracks produced are compiled exclusively for discovery under fair use and are not for commercial sale or distribution but rather are intended to promote the artists and copyright holders of sources used.
