Dr. Daniel Golshevsky, widely known as Dr Golly, is an Australian general and newborn paediatrician, clinical educator, author, media commentator, and creator of a paediatric sleep program. Based in Melbourne, Victoria, he is known for his compassionate, evidence-based approach to supporting parents through early childhood sleep and settling challenges.[1][2]

Early life and education

Golshevsky graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) from the University of Melbourne in 2007.[3] After undertaking field work in Ethiopia, he completed his paediatric training in Australia and earned Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2015.[4]

He served as Chief Resident Medical Officer at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne, contributing to the development of the hospital’s Clinical Practice Guidelines.[5]

Clinical and academic career

Dr Golshevsky practices as a general and newborn paediatrician at Cabrini Children’s Centre in Malvern, Victoria.[6] He previously held appointments at Melbourne Paediatric Specialists (Parkville) and Monash Children’s Hospital (Clayton), as well as The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.[7]

He completed a cardiology fellowship at RCH and contributed to clinical research on Kawasaki disease. He has also served as a peer reviewer for the Raising Children Network.[8]

Dr Golly’s clinical interests include:

  • Management of unsettled babies and infant/toddler sleep issues
  • Infant continence, toileting, and constipation
  • Childhood behavioural conditions, including autism and ADHD
  • Diagnosis and treatment of upper airway issues

He advocates a family-centred, psychosocial, and evidence-based approach, with an emphasis on empowering both parents—particularly fathers—in infant care.[10]

Dr Golly Sleep Program

Golshevsky developed the online "Dr Golly Sleep Program", a cues-based, breastfeeding-friendly sleep and settling course for children aged newborn to five years, avoiding “cry-it-out” methods.[11][12] The program has supported over 30,000 families by teaching healthy routines for naps, regressions, and sleep transitions.[13]
