Dr. Som Tugnait

Dr. Som Tugnait (born 22 July 1967) is an Indian fitness expert, powerlifter, bodybuilder, and medical doctor. He is a two-time World Bench Press Champion, a former National Powerlifting Champion, and a certified IFBB Pro League Judge. Known for his deep contribution to the Indian fitness industry, Tugnait has also worked as a columnist, editor, and public speaker in the fields of health and muscle science.

Early Life and Education

Dr. Som Tugnait was born in New Delhi, India,  to Dr. Pran Nath Tugnait and Suman Tugnait. He completed his schooling at Hans Raj Model School, Punjabi Bagh. He is the father of two children, Sagar Tugnait and Saloni Tugnait.

He developed an early interest in sports and athletics, particularly cricket, and played as a fast-paced bowling all-rounder for the Sonnet Cricket Club from 1985 to 1989. He later pursued a medical degree and worked as a self-employed medical doctor from 1991 to 2001.

Career in Powerlifting and Bodybuilding

Tugnait rose to national prominence in the 1990s, winning the National Powerlifting Championship seven times between 1994 and 2000. He also earned the title of Strongest Man of India three times (1997–1999) and went on to win the World Bench Press Championship twice under the World Powerlifting Congress in 2004 and 2005.

In bodybuilding, he was a three-time Mr. Delhi title winner under the Delhi State Amateur Bodybuilding Association (1989–1991).

Fitness Leadership and Judging

Dr. Tugnait has served as the Head Judge for NPC Worldwide India since 2019 and is an active IFBB Pro League Judge, representing India on international platforms.

He is also the founder and owner of Metal Gym, located in Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi, which has been operational since 2004 and is regarded as a premier destination for strength and physique athletes in India.
