Dhruv Bedi [1] is an Indian classical Sitar artist who performs in Hindustani Classical Music, World Music and Fusion Music genres. He is widely seen among the leading sitar players. Dhruv is a disciple of Padma Bhushan recipient Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee and has obtained training under the Guru-shishya tradition. He belongs to the Imdadkhani Gharana of sitar playing. [2][3]

Dhruv is a recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2018) [4][5] by Sangeet Natak Academi and is a 'A' Grade Artist from All India Radio and Doordarshan in the field of Hindustani Music - Sitar and has regularly given solo performances for national and state programmes. He is an impaneled Artist with ICCR and SPIC MACAY. [6][7]

Dhruv has marked his presence as a sitar artist at the National Programme of Music conducted by DD National. He is the recipient of National Scholarship, an initiative of the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship scheme conducted by CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Ministry of Culture) in the field of Hindustani Music.

Early life

Dhruv was born on 16th September 1990 in Delhi to a family of musicians. His grandfather learned Hindustani Classical vocal music from the great Krishnarao Shankar Pandit in Gwalior. Dhruv began his training in sitar at the age of 4 from his father and guru Shri Jagdeep Singh Bedi, a renowned sitar and surbahar artist. He gave his first public concert at the age of 6. Since 2009, he is a disciple of the sitar and surbahar maestro Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee under Guru-Shishya Parampara. [2][3]

Education

Dhruv pursued his secondary and senior secondary education from The Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi and passed out in the year 2009. He later graduated from Hindu College, University of Delhi in the year 2012. Dhruv has also pursued his graduate and post-graduate training in Hindustani Classical Music, Sitar.

Performances

Dhruv has performed in various festivals and music conferences of world prominence such as the Ethano Music Festival, Sweden (2013), Sounds of India - Music Festival, New Zealand (2019) [8] , Asian Music Conference, South Korea (2006), Udaipur World Music Festival (2018) [9][10] , Arohi Music Festival, Mumbai (2016) [11][12] and Silk Route Festival, Azerbaijan (2014) and Vishnu Digambar Jayanti Sangeet Mahotsav, Delhi (2016) [13]

Has performed outside of India in countries such as Russia, South Korea, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Mauritius. He has performed at the International Solar Alliance Summit, New Delhi (2018) in the presence of various heads of State including Sheikh Hasina (currently serving as the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh), Narendra Modi (currently serving as the Prime Minister of India) and Emmanuel Macron (previously serving as the President of France). [14][15][16]

In addition to that he has also performed at the World Economic Forum, Switzerland (2012), Utsav Music Festival at John F. Kennedy center for performing Arts, USA (2016), BBC Woodstock Music Festival, India, Umang Music Festival, NCPA Mumbai (2016) and Delhi International Jazz Festival (2010).
