Deveron FM is a community radio station operating in Banff, Aberdeenshire and broadcasting to northern Aberdeenshire.
History
[edit]Deveron FM initially broadcast under Restricted Service Licences starting at 6am on 24 September and ending on 7 October 2001,[1][2] and then between 15 April and May 2002[3][4] and between 11 November and 8 December of the same year.[5] During the second trial broadcast, it popularised "Scottish Takeaway", a song by Tim Branston and Steve Brown about a Scottish holidaymaker planning a trip to China where he is unable to find restaurants providing Scottish cuisine.[6][7] Deveron FM has also been involved in community events in the Banff area[8][9][10] and fundraising for charities including Children in Need.[11]
Deveron FM started broadcasting full-time at 7am on 1 December 2014.[12] In 2019, the station was authorised to increase its transmitter power output to improve reception in Portsoy and Turriff.[13] In December 2020, the station started broadcasting on extra relay transmitters with different frequencies to include Aberchirder.[14]
