Daniel Godwin is a Canadian screenwriter, producer, and former musician. He is best known for his work on the Canadian television shows Flashpoint, Played, and X Company.

Early life and education

Daniel Godwin was born in Burnt River, Ontario, Canada. Godwin was educated at Fenelon Falls Secondary School.

He studied filmmaking at the Toronto Film School.

Career

Music career

Godwin started his career as a musician. He was the drummer for the Canadian punk rock band Springloaded.[1]

They released their debut album Nothing to Lose, Nothing to Gain in 2006 and it consisted of 19 tracks.[2] This was followed by an EP titled End of an Error released in 2008 and consisted of 5 tracks. The same year, Springloaded's song Back from the debt from their debut album was part of a Canadian punk rock compilation album titled High Art for the Lowdown.

Film and television career

2006-2007

Godwin entered the film and television industry as a production assistant. His first credit was as a production assistant for ABC Family (now Freeform) television series Beautiful People for six episodes on the show.

This was followed by working in the same role for the film Man of the Year starring Robin Williams.[3]

Godwin also worked as a production assistant on the Lifetime television film, Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy, the Disney Channel television films Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front and Twitches Too and the Court TV television series Love You to Death starring John Waters.

During this time, he wrote and directed the Canadian short film Apartments at 254.[4]

2008-2009

Godwin worked as an assistant to the director on the Disney Channel television film Camp Rock starring Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers.

He worked as a production secretary on the film Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.[5] and the HBO television film Grey Gardens starring Jessica Lange.[6]

Godwin served as the assistant to the executive producer and writer on the Disney XD television series Aaron Stone for eighteen episodes.

He started working as a production secretary for the CTV/CBS/ION police procedural television series Flashpoint (TV series) and later as a story co-ordinator from season 2 of the show.[7]

2010-2014

For the third and fourth seasons of Flashpoint, Godwin continued as the story co-ordinator for the show. He also wrote for the ninth episode of the fourth season The War Within.[8]

From Season 5 of the show, he was the junior story editor[9] and also wrote the the sixth episode Below the Surface.[10]

During this time, Godwin also worked as a story editor and writer for the Canadian film Happy Slapping.[11][12]

He served as the story editor for the CTV television series Played. He co-wrote the episode Cars which was the seventh episode of the first season alongside Matt MacLennan. Both Godwin and MacLennan were nominated for the 2014 Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards for the episode in the TV Drama category.[13]

2015-present

Godwin wrote for the 2015 Canadian short film The Offer starring Hugh Dillon and Sergio Di Zio.[14]

He contributed to the story of the episode Freebird for the eleventh episode of the first season of the Family Channel television series Lost & Found Music Studios.[15]

Godwin served as the story editor of the CBC spy thriller television series X Company. He also wrote the sixth episode of the second season titled Black Flag. Godwin also wrote the third season episodes One for the Moon[16] which was the third episode, and Friendly Fire which was the ninth episode of the season.[17] Godwin was the co-producer of the second season of the show, and in the third season, he became the producer.

He served as the writer for the 2018 Canadian short film The Pickup.

Godwin is currently developing his own projects as well as writing for video games.
