Daldo Marte Limoneta (was born in 1982 in Havana; Cuba), he is a self-taught Cuban visual artist.  Active in the urban scene of Havana since the early 2010s; he is particularly known for his performances in public spaces where he embodies his superhero figures. His art is associated with art brut, which combines sculptures, costumes, and performance while using reclaimed materials.

Biography

From a young age Daldo Marte developed his artistic style using an empirical method to assemble and make his own toys.  This artistic expression was closely tied to a need for storytelling and self-identification. Over time his, his artistic process evolved from drawing to crafting objects ultimately leading him to embody the characters he imagined, often wandering the streets a like living animated graffiti.

In 2015, Marte participated in a collective art exhibition during the twelfth edition of the Havana Bienal. It was  through this public event and a pivotal encounter with Cuban artist Kcho—that his figures made from recycled materials were publicly presented as works of art for the first time.[1].

This event sparked a wave of collaborations and exhibitions in cities including Paris, New York, Miami, Brussels, Amsterdam and Lausanne. Simultaneously, his work began to enter private collections in major museum holdings.

In 2016, the short film Daldo Marte: The Artist premiered. Filmed between Paris and Havana, it featured the participation of Christian Berst and was dedicated to Daldo.  That same year, one of Daldo’s costumes was included in the exhibition Multitudes at the American Folk Art Museum, becoming part of  the museum’s permanent collection[2].

In 2019, a feature filmed during his first visit to Paris served as a complement to a monograph published in 2022, titled Daldo Marte, Artist or Superhero?[3]  The project included contributions from Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, Phillipe Cohen Solal, Maurice Renoma y Robert Vallois.

In 2023, Rosmy Porter organized several exhibition projects, including Daldo’s first solo show in Paris, held in collaboration with Robert Vallois[4]

In 2024, Daldo Marte was invited to present a dual solo exhibition at the  16th district town hall of Paris. That same year, he was featured in Artension magazine[5], and a photograph of him in costume was chosen as the cover image for the group show Art Brut Cuba[6] at the Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne. To accompany the exhibition, a second monograph titled The World of Daldo and the Art of Daldo[7] was published, featuring a foreword by museum director Sarah Lombardi and a critical essay by Jorge Fernández, director of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Cuba.

On June 5, 2025, a new solo exhibition was held at Galerie Vallois curated by Laura Arano, Chief Curator of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Cuba)[8]. This same year, Daldo Marte's work entered the collection of the Centre Pompidou with three pieces. He was also among the featured artists in the exhibition Art Brut: In the Intimacy of a Collection – Bruno Decharme Donation[9], and he performed From the Street to the Museum[10] during the inauguration of the exhibitions marking the second phase of the Grand Palais reopening on June 19.
