Cristina S. Richie is a British–American philosopher and bioethicist, specializing in environmental bioethics, reproductive ethics, and the ethics of health-care technology. She is currently Lecturer in Ethics of Technology and Cohort Lead for the MSc in Data & Artificial Intelligence Ethics at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, University of Edinburgh.

Early life and education

Richie earned a BA in English Literature from Colorado State University, followed by a Master of Divinity from Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary. She later completed a ThM in Moral Theology and a PhD in Theological Ethics from Boston College.[1]

Richie's scholarship advocates for environmentally sustainable, equitable, and ethically sound health-care and reproductive technologies. She has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals including Nature Climate Change, The Lancet, American Journal of Bioethics, Journal of Medical Ethics, and Hastings Center Report.[4]

Media and public engagement

Richie writes opinion pieces and commentary for public media, including The Scotsman, where she has addressed issues in health-care sustainability.[6]

In 2024, she launched her book Environmental Ethics and Medical Reproduction at a public lecture hosted by the Edinburgh Futures Institute.[7]

She has also given invited talks at the IRCM Montreal, the KU Leuven Bioethics Institute, and numerous international conferences.[8]
