"Cotton Candy" is a song by American rappers Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. It was released on June 6, 2025, as the eighth track from the former's fourteenth studio album Tha Carter VI. It was produced by Lil Wayne, Manny G, and Swede.
Composition
[edit]According to HotNewHipHop, the song is a "trap treatment of a sugary sweet soul sample", with "fast-flowing verses with plenty of wordplay".[1] Lyrically, the song references drugs and contains namedrops of celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Slim Shady.[2]
Critical reception
[edit]Robin Murray of Clash magazine called the song a "raunchy club mover".[3] Paul Attard of Slant Magazine put the song in the "disposable" tier.[4] Rolling Stone editor Mosi Reeves praised the song for its "appealing playfulness".[5] Paul Thompson of Pitchfork called it a "excruciatingly cloying duet".[6] Gabriel Bras Nevares of HotNewHipHop praised the song for its "clever bars", and called it a "treat that will hold us over".[1]
In a ranking of the album's nineteen songs, Billboard's Michael Saponara placed it at number nine. He penned, "It's a Welcome 2 Collegrove reunion with 2 Chainz joining the sugar rush, and these guys will be able to join forces with ease until their [sic] in the retirement home".[2]
